On May 19 local time, the Sengkang-Punggol Depot power supply upgrading project (Singapore 810H Project), co-constructed by the China Railway Electrification Engineering Group International Engineering Company, was successfully energized in one go. This marks a major breakthrough for the first rail power supply system project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in Singapore’s construction market.
The Sengkang-Punggol LRT connects 28 stations and handles massive passenger flows, making it a core hub of Singapore’s public transport network. The new expansion area (SPDE) of the depot was built using an innovative “stacked construction” approach directly above the existing depot of the North East Line (NEL). Two new traction substations were established at SE2 (Rumbia) and PE7 (Damai) stations, effectively equipping the light rail with a powerful heart.
Through the upgrade of the intelligent power supply system, the project will achieve a significant leap in traction power capacity, fully supporting the efficient operation of 36 double-carriage LRT trains. It will provide a safer, faster, and more comfortable travel experience for millions of Singaporeans and contribute to building a world-class green and smart transportation system in the city-state.
